Southport Short Film Festival to launch ‘Online Shopping’

‘Online Shopping’ is to vie at the Southport Int’l Short Film Festival in the UK.

Fajr-award winning short flick ‘Online Shopping’ has been listed in the official selection of the Southport International Short Film Festival in the UK.

The 15-min film, written, directed and produced by Ghasideh Golmakani, will be attending the 1st edition of the film event.

Made in 2017, ‘Online Shopping’ is about Donia, a young girl who wants to immigrate for pursuing her studies abroad. Before she leaves Iran, she tries to sell her belongings online. One of the customers is a man who enters in her house and behaves strangely.

‘Online Shopping’ has been honored with the best short film award at the 35th Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

It also attended the 2019 Chicago Feminist Film Festival as well as the 22nd International Film Festival Regard which is one of the most prestigious cultural events in Canada.

In ‘Online Shopping’, Ghasideh shows in a simple way the unexpected behaviors of men in the society.

Besides Golmakani, four other directors are also among the Southport contenders from Iran, including 'Balance' by Barzan Rostami, ‘Room no. 13’ by Kasra Tirsahar, ‘The Hands’ by Parviz Rajaee and ‘Better than Neil Armstrong’ written and directed by Alireza Ghasemi.

The Southport International Short Film Festival is destined to become a significant annual event on the cultural calendar in the Northwest of England with the aim is to showcase the very best short films from around the world.

The opening edition of the film event was set for July 26-28, 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival may occur online.
